No five-star hotel buffet can compare to this.
Oh, what a nice way to wake up. I feel the sun on my tent fabric. I’m not jumping out of my tent immediately; it’s still fresh, but it promises a lot of good things.
As always, I thoroughly enjoy my first, and also my second and third, coffee while still lying in my sleeping bag. This remains a highlight of the day. Nothing compares to a five-star hotel breakfast buffet (great word for hangman, by the way).
Everyone in their own bubble
The ladies are waking up as well. Still, we haven’t exchanged a word, except for a few sentences yesterday when I arrived. They are chatting among themselves. I don’t understand anything, but it’s nice to listen to. They in their bubble, me in mine.
Then suddenly the smell of scrambled eggs enters my nose. The lady with the blonde braids is preparing breakfast. It seems delightful to me, but no eggs for me. I’ve been trying to get the smell of a broken egg out of my bag for three days now. Without success.
Scrambled and rotten eggs
I don’t know how it happened. I had carefully placed the eggs in their carton in my backpack, thinking they wouldn’t break. Not the case. Probably bumped against something hard. Next time, they will also go in a plastic bag, because this smell is unbearable.
Detour to the supermarket and church
Then off to the supermarket for new eggs and other groceries. A big detour; it can’t be helped. Next to the supermarket is another church, and I gratefully take advantage of the warm water in the pristine toilet for yet another cup of coffee, saving gas, and a small laundry.
Delicious scents of pine and meals
Today’s route mostly goes through the forest. Towering conifer trees spread their delightful scent. I prefer walking on a carpet of pine needles more than anywhere else. Additionally, there are piles of freshly cut wood everywhere. I inhale that scent with delight.
After a delightful meal of roasted potatoes, onions, sausage, and fresh spinach, I plan to hike for a few more hours. But a beautiful shelter spot and approaching bad weather change my mind. I pass two large shelters with a view of the heath. A fire is already burning and four Danes are cooking. I can easily join them and stay dry right away. Sometimes continuing on isn’t the best plan.
