The next chapter

Help, my keyboard

It’s time for the next stage of my journey. The technical problems seem to be finally resolved, and I can move on. First, one important thing: a new foldable keyboard. Mine has given up, and without that thing, I feel lost as a writer. I type blind with ten fingers, and that certainly goes much smoother than using two thumbs on a phone screen. Voice input? No, that’s not for me. I’ve tried it, but it just works differently than writing and rewriting.

So happy!

In Sandvika, five minutes by train from Asker, there is an electronics store that, according to the internet, still has one in stock. Long live the internet. Although I’ve been disappointed before when an item’s availability ‘didn’t turn out to be correct’. But today is different. A fifteen-minute walk from the station, and shortly after, I’m back outside. Happy, very, very happy and relieved. I have my keyboard!

Taking the train to the start of the Borgleden

Now the adventure can really continue. I travel by train via Oslo to Moss (less than an hour including transfer), where my next route starts: the Borgleden. A pilgrimage route towards Trondheim, although I will, of course, walk it the other way, towards Elgåfoss.

Haute cuisine on the beach

In Moss, I first go to the supermarket. I have only had breakfast, and it’s already three o’clock. At a small beach overlooking the harbor and the ferry, I prepare my warm meal: Chinese stir-fried vegetables, noodles, and mackerel. A surprisingly good combination; I’m licking my fingers. Also, because there is no faucet to be found anywhere.

The lake wins again

Actually, I’m still quite eager to hike, but the next shelter on the route is 22 kilometers away, and it appears that wild camping is challenging in this section. But walking such a distance now? I’ll pass on that. On the map, I see a shelter six kilometers off the route, by a lake. Well… a shelter by the water almost always wins me over.

An hour and a half later, I arrive. In the middle of a pine forest, on the characteristic dark gray Norwegian rocks, right by the water. The next chapter can begin.

Overnight stay: Grevlingbukta, a shelter by Moss
