I even get lost on the map.

Stormy night

The night behind the rhododendrons is stormy again. Rain showers, wind, and restless sleep. I remain hopeful that today will be better and make the best of the situation: a hearty breakfast with eggs, tomato, coffee, and fruit. Until it stops raining.

Sheltering in the rose garden

The shelter is located at the edge of a rose garden. Before departing, I take a stroll around. Last night, I didn’t have the energy for it, and it turns out to be fortunate, as I am again caught by a heavy downpour. With Wheelie, I run to a little house at the entrance of the park.

Engaging conversation with the garden ladies

There are already two ladies sheltering. They turn out to be the garden ladies of the rose garden. They have been maintaining the garden for twenty and ten years. It is their job, but clearly also their passion and their life. They enthusiastically talk about the development of the garden over the years and what it all entails. It’s very enjoyable to listen to.

Village and route less interesting

In Aalestrup, I look around a bit. The church, a gallery, a few shops. There’s not much to experience. There are surprisingly many hairdressers and even two arcade halls. After this, it’s back to kilometers along the Himmerlandstien, the former railway line. Yesterday, I found it wonderful to walk, today it’s becoming a bit monotonous. The path is fine, but there isn’t much variety.

Incorrect overnight stay planned

When I arrive in Aars and want to figure out how to continue to my planned overnight stay, I discover that I’ve been looking at the wrong route. From Aars, the Hærvejen splits into two branches: one heading west to Hirtshals and one heading east to Frederikshavn. I’m driving myself crazy. Even on the map, I’m going the wrong way. And yesterday, I thought I had prepared so well…

Overnight stay next to the kindergarten

There’s nothing else to do but stay in Aars, as I won’t reach the next shelter on the route before dark. My sleeping spot is unusual, to say the least. The shelter is located right in the city, next to a kindergarten. A few trees are trying to maintain the illusion of nature, but that’s about it. Sleeping in tomorrow might not be an option. Or maybe I’ll be awakened by cheerful children’s songs.
