A moment to pause

Two cars in fifteen hours

Although my shelter is in a strange location, right by the road – where, by the way, only two cars have passed in all the time I’ve been here – I sleep wonderfully. The shelter is dark and spacious, and right next to it, I have a toilet and a water tap. It’s actually quite luxurious.

Route without signage

I had read about it before, but the section of Hallandsleden that I am about to walk is not signposted everywhere. Strange, because it’s fantastically marked everywhere else. You can always see an orange marker: a sign, a mark with paint on a tree, or an orange plastic band around a tree or pole. Not here. I also notice that the maintenance is less than on other sections.

Obstacles along the way

Twice I get lost. Once I can’t go any further because there are so many fallen trees that passing is impossible. It takes me over half an hour, scrapes, and a fall to cover a hundred meters, but in the end, I succeed.

Obstinate landowner

Later, I’m approached by two young people who work for Hallandsleden. They ask if I’ve walked the whole section and if I encountered any difficult areas. I confirm and point out where the problems are. “We know. It’s very annoying, but the landowner doesn’t allow us to mark this part of the route. We will report it to our boss. Hopefully, something can be done about it.”

I haven’t experienced this before. The law states that you can walk across everyone’s land, but apparently, a landowner can still impose certain requirements. What could be the motivation of this man or woman? I can’t think of it. The Hallandsleden will still cross his land, whether he likes it or not.

Break due to the heat

My plan is to take a break and stay in the same place for two or three days. The spot I have in mind is by the water and only five kilometers from a supermarket, with even a bus going there. That seems perfect to me. A moment to pause. A bit of rest. A high of 32 degrees is even expected one day. An exception, as the next day it’s back to a pleasant 21 degrees.

Impossible to reach the water

I hoped to jump into the lake, but unfortunately. It turns out to be a small camping area with two occupied shelters, and swimming is not possible there. Tomorrow I’ll have to look a bit further. Because if it gets that warm, I want a total relaxation day. No walking at all. Just swimming and lounging.
