A large screen

Television is unnecessary

You really don’t need a television here. Not anywhere, but especially not here. My view from the shelter is like one big widescreen. I can stare at the horizon for hours without getting bored for a second. There’s always something to see. Only around midnight does it get a bit dark, and when I wake up at three, the sky has already changed completely in color. A beautiful orange-pink glow. It’s actually light again.

Happy with the coast

I only leave at one in the afternoon. I sleep in and write for a bit at the picnic table, fifty meters away. I am so glad I chose the coastal route because today it’s breathtakingly beautiful once again. The coastline keeps changing, and I walk along a wide gravel path that is only accessible to hikers and cyclists. From its width, I suspect this was once the old thoroughfare.

Would the official Tunsbergleden be just as beautiful? It runs parallel, but higher through the forests. Surely also stunning, but I’ll never know. The path I’m currently following is called the Kyststien, the coastal route. Not a pilgrimage route, but definitely a hit.

Search for shelters

And those shelters… don’t expect any signs along the way. You just have to know where they are, and often they are well hidden. I use an app for it, but even that is not complete. It remains a treasure hunt.

Via maps.me, I finally find my sleeping spot. Two small cabins with a covered porch in between. The cabins turn out to be locked. I’m not sure if staying here is legal. Camping isn’t possible either since there’s no flat ground to be found. Then I’ll just set my mat up on the porch. Completely fine. Moreover, there’s a church 250 meters away with an outdoor tap, so I can wash myself after this warm day before diving into my sleeping bag. Luxury!

The rain softly taps

Barely have I settled in when it starts to rain gently. Beneath the metal roof, I can only hear the soothing sound of the droplets. I’ll leave early tomorrow; it seems like a scout place, and I’m not looking forward to a group of enthusiastic cubs pulling me out of my sleeping bag.
