A day to remember

Sticky oatmeal cookies with chocolate for breakfast

For the first time, it feels pretty hot in my tent. It’s not even that warm, but with this sun, it gets hot quickly. I walk barefoot through the grass to the table. It’s not a punishment. With my still sleepy head, I look around: the green grass, the lush flowers, the sparkling water of the stream, an ant hauling something, a little bird with a twig in its beak. Ordinary scenes that already make the day special.

Today, my breakfast consists of oatmeal cookies with chocolate. Because I decided to stay here yesterday, I couldn’t do any shopping. So, no healthy breakfast, but it’s tasty. However, the whole roll of cookies has turned into one big lump. The chocolate has melted, and all the cookies are stuck together. I have to cut them apart one by one with a knife. Best not to take these cookies in warm weather.

Unique creative process

At the table, I continue writing what I started yesterday. It’s fascinating how that creative process unfolds and what suddenly comes from my hands. I’m curious where it leads, but it’s becoming clearer.

My legs move by themselves

When I finally set off, I suddenly feel it. For the first time since my departure from the Netherlands, walking no longer feels like a chore. My legs move on their own. I feel like the inspired hiker again. And it stays that way all day. The numerous benches no longer look tempting; in the past few days, I gratefully plopped down on them, and I’ve finally found my rhythm. Wonderful. This is exactly how I envisioned it: combining writing and hiking, intuitively, allowing something to emerge by really listening to what is being asked.

Shower on the horizon

I arrive at the shelter spot of the village Bække at 7:30 PM. A passerby, with whom I have a pleasant conversation, tells me that you can shower in the old station building until eight o’clock. I’m just a bit too late for that, but I’ll make up for it tomorrow morning. I won’t need to be told twice.

The best dinner ever!

And after I’ve prepared a truly delicious meal, stir-fried vegetables with spicy noodles, I can only say: this was a day to remember.
