The realm of rocks

I leave Wheelie behind

I wake up with anticipation. Today, Ramsvikslandet is on the agenda. I’m looking forward to it. The Kingdom of Rocks. First, I need to find a nice spot for Wheelie, as I won’t take him along on this circular walk. I secure him to a tree at a dead-end road. Zippers locked, and I hope for the best. I’m not too worried. He’s well hidden, and aside from a few locals, no one is likely to come by.

A treat for the senses

I choose the blue route of fifteen kilometers, completely around the peninsula. And indeed, I am not disappointed. I encounter hardly anyone, and the nature is incredibly beautiful and varied. I often stop to take it all in. Feeling the wind and inhaling the scent of the pines. Again, a treat for the senses.

Reunited with Wheelie

It’s a taxing fifteen kilometers, but every meter is a joy. Tired but satisfied, I am reunited with Wheelie, who is still patiently waiting in the shade. It feels strangely nice to clip him back onto my hips and continue together.

Two days of relentless rain

Then a new dilemma arises. Two days of continuous rain is forecasted, with thunderstorms and lightning. I’ve agonized over what would be wise. Campsites are full or cost more than fifty euros. You pay for a spot here, whether you’re alone or with four people. They don’t have fields for hikers. Wild camping will also be tricky, and spending two days in my tent while the rain pours down… I’m not too keen on that.

The shelter is occupied…

Fortunately, there is a bus to Bovallstrand every two hours. That saves me almost ten kilometers of walking along a busy road with no room for pedestrians. After a quarter of an hour, I am back in the village, do some shopping, and head to the cabin where I stayed two days ago. But unfortunately… occupied.

The saving shelter

Luckily, there are still two shelters, 1.5 kilometers ahead. One large and one small. Although the small one is cozier, I choose the large one. I can stand up straight in it, there’s a lake nearby, and if I really have to take shelter for two days, that’s definitely a bit more comfortable.

Bring on the bad weather!
