Home in the rain

Severe weather in a huge shelter

In the early morning, I wake up to the sound of rain hammering on the wooden roof of my shelter. The rain is truly pouring down in buckets. In an instant, the paths leading to the shelter are flooded. What a severe storm. And I am so glad to be here. In retrospect, it was a blessing that the hut was occupied. I am better off here. It’s not as stuffy as in that little house, I have a beautiful view of the small lake, and unlimited access to fresh water. What more could a person and coffee lover want?

A rain shower!

The drops are so thick and so much water is falling that I suddenly have a brilliant idea. I take a rain shower! I completely undress and stand naked in front of the shelter. I spread my arms wide, lift my head up, and spin around a bit. What a sensation. The drops on my face and body. In no time, I am soaked. The temperature is still pleasant, and I won’t get cold quickly. I can wash myself peacefully and finally rinse all the sea salt off my body. I feel reborn. I feel primal. I feel like myself.

I feel at home

I turned my shelter into my home yesterday. The inner tent serves as a mosquito net, as there were still some mosquitoes, allowing me to sleep undisturbed. Now, it feels like a cocoon in the huge shelter. I washed some clothes, and they are hanging on the line with the hope that they will dry in this humid weather. A vain hope, but they had to be washed anyway. My food supplies and kitchen utensils are neatly at the edge. Everything easily accessible. I feel at home.

Making the best of a bad situation

I make the best of a bad situation. Finally, I have the time and inclination to start reading @timvoors’ new book: The Circle, about the famous 88 temple route in Japan. I am curious. I don’t feel like writing today.

Slowing down the day

This is how I spend my day. Slowly progressing. Reading, napping, making coffee, eating, watching the rain, and listening to the thunder, with claps that I have never heard so loud before.

Home is where the heart is.

PS. Unfortunately, the pictures of the rain shower didn’t turn out. Again, I didn’t break my record number of unfollowers.
