Coastal obstacles
What a delightful spot this was, right by the sea. With the sounds of the gentle waves and the nearby village of Skallevold in the background. Not disturbing at all, I actually found it quite cozy.
On the map, I see two routes north. One directly along the coast and one a bit more inland. I choose the coastal path. That seems more beautiful to me. And it certainly is beautiful. With the sun shining, it feels like I’m hiking somewhere in Southern Europe. But it turns out the path is not exactly suitable for Wheelie. First a stretch with ropes and sharp rocks, then a beach full of large stones. I walk a bit ahead without the cart to see if it gets better, but no. That’s not the case. I walk all the way back and choose the ‘easy’ route after all. A shame? No, not really. Otherwise, I would have missed this beautiful piece of coastline.
Heavy legs and a sore body
Today, I’m having a hard time getting going. My legs feel heavy and my body a bit sore. Probably the consequence of that 35 kilometers from the day before yesterday. Not even the distance itself, but especially trudging through hip-high grass, mud, marsh, and over rocks. In an attempt to give myself some extra energy, I eat a warm meal early. It doesn’t help.
The scream
In the seaside resort of Asgårdstrand, where everything revolves around the painter Munch of The Scream, and where his house still stands, I take a shower. Wonderful, but the boost is lacking. It’s convenient that you can shower at the many little harbors along the coast just by paying per minute with your card. It’s actually much more sensible than in the Netherlands, where you often pay for six minutes and then stand there because you’ve already paid anyway; at least, I do that, I don’t need six minutes. Here, you only pay for what you use, though the price isn’t cheap.
Stumbling towards my shelter
After walking twenty kilometers, or better said limping, I arrive delightfully early at my shelter. Once again a beautiful spot with a view of a small lake this time. Enjoying the sunshine and putting my legs up!
Overnight stay; Horten
