Lazy morning
Although I wake up around five from a beautiful sunrise, it rains heavily until around eleven. That gives me a legitimate excuse to stay in bed a bit longer. Not that I would have left much earlier otherwise, but it’s just for the idea. I will always remain a slow starter.
Back to the village
First, I need to walk 1.5 kilometers back to the village of Nørre-Snede. Luckily, I discover just in time that there won’t be a supermarket on my route for the next two days. Taking a detour of a few kilometers is always an option, but this store is nearby. To my delight, it turns out to be a Rema 1000: cheap, plenty of choice, and exactly what I need.
Pushing a heavy hiking trailer through beautiful Jutland
With my hiking trailer far too full of delights, my eyes are indeed bigger than my stomach, I continue on my way. And what a path it is! Winding forest trails, narrow paths by the heath, country roads with cows, sheep — I hadn’t seen those here yet — and horses. Everywhere are beautiful views and flowers. So many flowers. Oh, how I love it.
Once again seated in an office chair
Denmark has, I believe, more picnic tables per square kilometer than any other country. But as soon as you need one, they are, of course, nowhere to be found. Although I had vowed never to sit in an office chair again, I make an exception when I see one in a hunting lookout. The chair is also wrapped in a trash bag, so it has stayed dry from the downpours. I enjoy my freshly baked rolls from the supermarket and savor this unexpected luxury.
Shelter ‘Heath view’ with luxury mattresses
Around six-thirty, I arrive at a beautiful shelter with a view of the heath. There is a picnic table, a compost toilet, and even a water tap. Moreover, the hut has two real mattresses. I think I won’t sleep on them. I don’t know what those mattresses have been through. Brrrr.
Lazy evening
My plan was to cook here and then walk another seven kilometers to the next shelter, but the meat is weak. Here I sit fantastically… I’m staying. 17 kilometers on the clock, not much, but what does it matter? Tomorrow is another day.
