The day of this lord

A pleasant night in the orange house

The abandoned orange house is a fantastic place to spend the night. I sleep wonderfully, and the old freezer, the only remaining piece of furniture, serves as a countertop and desk. It’s such an unexpected luxury item that makes the life of this nomad extra enjoyable.

Lush green after all those burned trees

I continue my path through the green gorge. The day starts off cloudy, as it often does here, but then the sun shines brightly. Thankfully, no more burned trees today, just lush green and occasionally a small waterfall. It’s so beautiful!

Escaped photographer

There’s a challenging climb to a small hamlet of five houses, and I can’t see where the path continues. A bald, tanned man comes to my aid and shows me the way. I strike up a conversation with him. He was a photographer for thirty years in Spain and Portugal and has escaped from his busy life filled with deadlines and constant performance. Here, he enjoys the simple life. He has nothing, but he has everything. He walks with his bare chest, worn pants, and similar shoes. Appearances mean nothing here. We talk about friendship and the villagers who have nothing but share everything. He wouldn’t go back to his hectic old life, full of pretense and false appearances, for all the gold in the world.

In a state of delay

In the next village, I sit in the shade of a lemon tree in the square by a white church. I see not a soul. It’s eerily quiet. I sit there for hours. I cook my warm meal and just sit in the coolness. In total d e l a y. I can give in to it. Without judgment or condemnation. I sit. I look. I feel. I hardly think. This Sunday, this day of the Lord, is the day of this lord. Miles no longer interest me. The route will come. Or not. The feeling of obligation seems to evaporate in the heat. I feel content, I feel happy and joyful.

On a mat of pine needles

After that, I just need to find a ‘little’ camping spot. I find an open area in a piece of forest. On a mat of pine needles, I pitch my tent. Life is good. The lord has spoken.
