Not on the road

Dead silence

I am so glad I landed here yesterday by the two lakes. It is truly dead silent. Only every now and then a brief quack from some geese. All other birds keep their beaks shut, and I’ve only heard one mosquito, which I expertly silenced. I feel content and in a strange way fulfilled. Yesterday, and even to a lesser extent a few days before, I didn’t feel like doing anything. So I didn’t. I don’t feel gloomy, so I think there’s no need to panic.

Autonomy

Not writing, not hiking. Does that make you less of a hiker and/or writer? It just hit me. It feels different from laziness, although I tend to label it that way. It could just be autonomy. Not writing. Not hiking. Without guilt, without a plan, without having to justify myself. I give it space. I won’t analyze or control it. I observe it. That. Nothing more and nothing less.

We’ll see. Or not.

Maybe the hiker will return. Maybe the writer. Maybe both at the same time. Or maybe not at all. Who can say? You can also be perfectly fine not being on a journey just to be on a journey.

By the way, I do feel like something is about to happen. That something is shifting. We’ll see. Or not.

And now I’ve still written a piece…
