The end

A lazy start pays off

The wind howls around the egg. The starting point is unfavorable and the wind blows full force. Some rain also comes through the window. Luckily, I can keep it mostly dry, although I see that there are holes in the walls. Fortunately, the expected heavy rainfall does not occur. Otherwise, I definitely wouldn’t have kept it dry.

I dread going out into the bleak weather. The weather forecast is terrible. By eleven o’clock, I am finally nearly ready to hatch from my egg when the storm suddenly breaks loose. My lazy start pays off today. I stay a little longer.

Start and end in the rain

Once the worst is over, I put on Wheelie’s bright yellow rain jacket and grab my poncho. Off we go. It has to be done. There’s no escaping it. It’s tough. Wind, rain, and desolation on my last day of walking. I even put on my rain jacket underneath my poncho. It’s chilly. And so I began and ended these nearly four months through Scandinavia in pouring rain.

Southernmost point of Sweden

If I can manage without drowning my phone, I take some photos at the southernmost point of Sweden, ‘Smygehuk’, a tourist attraction. Even today there are visitors. There isn’t much to experience. A pier with a sign and many little restaurants, deserted today.

Covered lunch

I’m starting to get hungry and I’m lucky because I pass by a camping site where I hope to find a place to sit. And yes: a covered terrace of the almost deserted camping site. There I can sit quietly, make coffee, and warm up food.

Last night in the tent

Yet today is turning out well. I can usually weather the worst downpours while staying sheltered. First in the egg, then at the southernmost point, and now on this terrace. In the afternoon, the skies clear up. I arrive in Trelleborg, where I first take a walk before I continue for another four kilometers to the shelter and camping ground in a kind of city park, where a colony of cormorants resides. This will be my last night in my tent for now. I prefer it over the shelter for a bit more privacy in this urban area.

The big question

The end of my nearly four months of hiking through Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, before I head to warmer places. Where to? That is still the big question for me as well.

Overnight stay: Trelleborg
