No water. No food.

Cozy atmosphere

Even in the morning, there is a cozy vibe at the lake. From my tent, I see a group of friends having breakfast at the only table in the sun. I feel a bit jealous, as it’s chilly without the sun. I crawl back into my sleeping bag, sip my coffee, and watch the scene.

Different route

The route is completely different today. No more forest, only paths through fields and meadows. The views are stunning, with all the different shades of color in the patchworks that rise in the undulating landscape.

No tap to be found

At a little church, I think I can get drinking water. Then I don’t have to purify the water I’ve collected from the lake. I walk to a spot where I see watering cans, throw away my unpurified water, and want to fill my bottles for coffee. But there is no tap! Huh?

A unique occurrence

Next to the watering cans is a small house. There’s probably a tap inside, but everything is locked. What a fool I am. I’ve thrown away my water, and now I have nothing left. No water and no food, because of the disaster of the non-existent supermarket yesterday, I’ve really run out of everything. Quite the phenomenon: the first cemetery without water. Off I go.

The rain radar is wrong

The weather isn’t cooperating. The rain radar keeps saying that no rain is expected, but I don’t believe it. And indeed, it is going to rain. Luckily, there’s an old bus shelter just in time. The coffee will have to wait a bit, as there isn’t enough water for coffee. I’m not shaking yet, so it should be okay.

My eyes are bigger than my stomach

With just half a jar of peanut butter left, I finally arrive at the supermarket. My eyes are bigger than my stomach, and of course, I buy way too much. My shelter is 700 meters further, and tomorrow I want to stop by the supermarket again to buy supplies for a few days. After that, a long stretch without any stores awaits.

Dirty shelters

By a stream, there are two shelters. Still, I decide to set up my tent. The huts are quite dirty inside. They are filled with sand, bird droppings, and leaves, and there is no broom to clean it up. I don’t like lying down in there. But sleeping in my tent is certainly not a punishment. So, well…
