The sea!

The last day

Then the final day of the Skåneleden Coast to Coast has arrived. I have enjoyed it, but I am also ready for something different. Forests and lakes, I am truly addicted to them, but still… on to the southern coast. The sea!

Including fishing lake

My tent was pitched by a fishing lake last night. Fishing is prohibited in many places, but around this small lake, you see beautiful docks everywhere, specially designed for anglers. Including an adapted dock for people with disabilities. I’ve noticed that Sweden is much more inclusive for wheelchair users. I believe 90% of toilets are wheelchair accessible, even the compost toilets in the middle of nature. I just wonder how one would even get there in a wheelchair, but that’s another story.

A cup of coffee from The Hague

Through rolling paths in endless forests and after a bumpy coffee break at the Ryssbergsstugan, a hiking cabin from 1942 in one of the largest contiguous beech forests in Sweden, I arrive in Sölvesborg around noon. My coffee break was disastrous: first I knocked over my cooking cup with the water I wanted to boil for the coffee, and then my mug of coffee. How does that happen? Only a cup of comfort from The Hague remained.

From Sölvesborg to Kristianstad

Well, Sölvesborg! The end of the trail and the sea in sight. After wandering around a bit, I walk to the station. By train, I am in Kristianstad in 25 minutes, known for its rich history as a former Danish fortress town, beautiful Renaissance architecture, and the unique surrounding water-rich nature reserve where I will spend the night.

Campsite in the nature reserve

It’s great to walk through shopping streets again, hear traffic, and see outdoor cafes. The city seems larger than it is; later, I read that only 40,000 people live here. Wild camping is allowed in just one spot, a forty-minute walk from the center. It turns out to be a camping field, and there are already five other tents set up. There’s no special view today, and unfortunately, I can constantly hear the highway, but the nature reserve surrounding it is definitely worth it.

Österlen, my next trail

Tomorrow I’m taking the bus to Brösarp for my next trail: Österlen, from Brösarp to Ystad. I’m curious about what it will bring!

Accommodation: Kristianstad
