Hooray for the drying cabin
After a good night’s sleep in my shelter with a view of grass, I walk back to the inn where my laundry is still hanging to dry. It turns out not to be dry, but no worries: there is a drying cabin. It looks like a refrigerator with warm air blown through it. Your clothes are dry in no time. Ideal.
Going with the flow this time means going against the wind
Then I head towards Viborg, a lovely town where I take my time. This time my ‘go with the flow’ – or poor preparation, as you could also call it – means I have to spend the night near the town. The next shelter is simply too far away to reach today.
Pizza and poncho weather
I have no desire to cook, so I treat myself to pizza. An excellent decision, as it tastes truly fantastic. I wander a bit more through the town and along the water. It’s certainly beautiful, but also chilly. It’s typical poncho-on-poncho-off weather. When I see my reflection in a shop window, I sing cheerfully: I’m sexy and I know it.
An ugly misstep, chocolate is the solution
Suddenly, I miss a step on the stairs. It shoots into my back. The pain is so intense that I feel a bit dizzy. Damn. One misstep and everything can suddenly change. Fortunately, the worst pain subsides after a while and I can move on cautiously. My mood, however, doesn’t improve. I buy and eat an entire bar of chocolate, not without reason a universal comfort food.
Shelter with a price tag
At the shelter, an unpleasant surprise awaits. It turns out to be a shelter with a price tag. I knew that somewhat, but I should have paid better attention. What wasn’t clearly stated anywhere is that as a solo hiker, you still pay for two people. You do get the whole shelter to yourself, but still.
To make a long story short: I have to pay 80 Danish Kroner (€10.70). I’m really frustrated. I’m careful with every cent during the whole trip, and then I get this. If I could have walked to the next paid spot, it would have cost me DK 100: bed, shower, and the facilities of the inn. What really bothers me is that it only said: DK 40 per person. But maybe I also count as two, that could very well be, because without Wheelie I’m nowhere.
