Moving on
After two nights and a whole day in the shelter, I’m glad I can move on. A bit frustrated with myself for not making better, or rather more creative, use of the available power and my time. Even while on the road and living my dream life, I fall back into ‘bad’ habits: procrastination, mindless scrolling, and lounging around without purpose.
A lot happened here in the past
Anyway, by eleven o’clock, I’ve packed everything up and, after a phone call with my son, I continue on my way. It’s always wonderful to hear from him. The route now has more than just woods; a lot happened here in the past. I pass an old spinning mill/weaving mill, abandoned factories, and over the ancient Knuts bridge, a bridge over the Helge river.
Stone houses
I’ve noticed that many houses here are completely or partially made of stone. I haven’t seen that before, except for the ‘horror house.’ Houses are almost always made of wood, mostly red, yellow, gray, or white, but very rarely blue or green. I love those colorful dwellings.
Gnocchi, once but never again
On a small peninsula, accessible via a rickety bridge, I cook my warm meal. For a change, I have gnocchi on the menu. Once but never again. The sauce is good, but I find the dough balls rather bland. They were in the discount bin for a fraction of the original price, so I thought I’d give them a try.
Mosquitoes on the attack
In a forest on a hill – why is the last stretch always so challenging when you think you’re almost there? – lies the shelter where I want to spend the night. But I’m quickly done with that idea. This is the territory of the kamikaze mosquitoes, as I like to call them. The relentless mosquito that comes straight for you without hesitation and starts biting immediately. No circling around or exploring. Nope. Straight into the attack!
Safe behind the mesh
I haven’t had much trouble with mosquitoes on my hikes, but now it’s unbearable. Fortunately, I find a flat piece of ground near the shelter. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve broken my record time for setting up the tent again. Safely behind the mesh, I see them buzzing around in frustration, looking for a way to reach me. Game over buddies!
