Here, I have the honour to sleep

Who on earth goes camping under a highway?

Sometimes I really don’t understand people. Well, actually, I often don’t, but that’s a different story. I had read something about the campsite I ended up at. Beautiful spot by a lake. The toilet building is a bit dated, but otherwise fine. Nowhere did it mention that the campsite is literally UNDER the highway. A huge bridge nearly over the campsite. The heavy rumble of truck traffic all night. I suspect they mostly drive at night.

An electric kettle saves my morning

The lake is indeed beautiful, but most campers and trailers are packed close together a bit further away. There’s hardly any space by the lake. The toilet building is fine, and there is an electric kettle. That’s really convenient, as my gas is almost out and I still haven’t found any denatured alcohol. I have my morning coffee in abundance.

Sometimes I still think of something good

I created the route to Strömstad myself. The Borgleden ends here, and although my plans have now changed, I decide to walk this route anyway. Indeed a good choice. Beautiful stretches through alternating farmland, lovely forest paths in the shade, and gradually the sound of the highway fades.

Overstimulated? Why?

In Strömstad, I skip the center. In the morning it seemed like a nice idea to visit, but I feel overstimulated. By what? No idea. I just don’t feel like crowds. It’s really bothersome to me. But well, the city isn’t going anywhere; I go straight to the shelter.

Searching for the path

But first, of course, searching again. I have the correct coordinates; it’s just that the path to it isn’t on any map. One path, another path, and only on the third attempt do I hit the right one. An hour later than planned, I finally arrive. A bit grumpy, but then I forget everything.

A sleeping spot that’s quite impressive

Behind the shelter, enormous boulders, neon green ferns, and wild berry bushes, unfortunately still without ripe berries. At the front, the characteristic gray rocks, covered in moss and tiny flowers. How I love that. And… with a view of the Strömvattnets Nature Reserve: a lake surrounded by marshland. Truly picturesque. Here, I have the honour to sleep.
